The proposed amendments are essential for securing increased funding for multiple City departments to address urgent refrigeration, preventative maintenance, and repair needs of the City’s heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. With aging equipment and rising demand, many HVAC systems are failing and can remain inoperable for weeks.
Maintaining these systems is crucial for fostering a healthy and productive work environment. This additional funding will allow departments to take a proactive approach, ensuring timely repairs, essential upgrades, and necessary replacements. It will also help restore or replace HVAC systems in recently acquired buildings such as Ben White, Tokyo Electron, and Infinity Park plus additional work maintaining other City department facilities acquired by the Building Services Department to provide maintenance services.
The requested authorization is based on departmental estimates of current and future needs.
If the proposed amendments are not approved, the City will not have the ability to maintain the HVAC systems properly. This will force the City to procure HVAC services on the open market, resulting in higher prices and increased HVAC downtime which may ultimately affect the health quality of employees and contractor workspaces.
