Additional Backup Information:
The Burnet Road Corridor - Bright Verde Way to Loop 1 project consists of the construction of one and a half miles of critical safety and mobility improvements along Burnet Road (FM 1325) from Bright Verde Way to Loop 1. Improvements include the construction of new 8-foot wide shared-use paths on both sides of the roadway; Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant bus stops; curb and gutter; pavement rehabilitation; intersection and traffic signal improvements at Bright Verde Way, Braker Lane, Kramer Lane, Esperanza Crossing, Solaris Street, Palm Way, Gault Lane, and Gracy Farms Lane; driveway reconstruction; new pavement markings and signage; and utility adjustments. Drainage improvements will incorporate stormwater detention and water quality structures, with landscaping enhancements such as adding trees and plantings along the new pedestrian and bikeway facilities. The project also includes the relocation and replacement of 1,788 linear feet of existing water mains to address subsurface conflicts as well as water system reliability.
This project includes four allowances:
• An allowance of $300,000 to address the handling and disposal of contaminated soil and ground water.
• An allowance of $250,000 to address the handling and disposal of asbestos and asbestos pipe.
• An allowance of $150,000 to address asphalt production, placement, and ride quality.
• An allowance of $383,100 to address early completion incentives to reduce traffic impacts on Burnet Road.
An allowance is an amount that is specified and included in the construction contract or specifications for certain items of work whose details are not yet determined at the time of bidding.
Due to the potential for unforeseen circumstances a 10% contingency in funding has been included to allow for the expeditious processing of any change orders to cover any unforeseen construction cost associated with the project. By authorizing the additional contingency funding, Council is authorizing any change orders within the contingency amount.
The project calls for lane closures, detours, and use of temporary pavement at various locations throughout the roadway during construction. A minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. The contractor will work to ensure that residents and businesses always have access to their driveways. Property owner(s) will be notified at least 48 hours in advance of planned service interruptions. Austin Capital Delivery Services will communicate information regarding the project with neighboring businesses and residents using mailings, social media outreach, press releases, etc. to inform the public as the work progresses.
A delay in issuing this contract will affect the delivery of mobility improvements for Burnet Road.
The contract allows 878 calendar days for completion of this project.
This project is located within zip code 78758 (Districts 4 and 7).
