Additional Backup Information:
The contract will provide a city-wide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) transition plan and self-evaluation report to advance the City’s compliance with the ADA.
The contractor shall provide specific guidance to City personnel on key policies, services and programs to improve compliance with the ADA. The contract will include assessing City facilities for compliance and creating a prioritization schedule with estimated costs for improvements.
The current City of Austin, ADA transition plan was last updated in 1996 and is outdated and not reflective of the current structure of the City. The contract will result in an updated transition plan, staff training, self-evaluation completed, public outreach, a digital accessibility review for external websites, and an updated Title VI Implementation Plan.
The contract programs will include mobility assistance, research and analysis, regional trip reduction program, regional mobility data exchange, regional brand alignment, brand management, and media support.
This is a new contract. The requested authorization amount was determined by departmental estimates, similar contracts for this type of work done by other local governments, and a comparison of what other municipalities have paid for similar efforts in the past.
If the City is unable to secure a contract, it risks furthering the distance between compliance and non-compliance with the ADA and increasing the City’s risk of creating and expanding barriers to residents with disabilities rather than reducing and eliminating them.
