The contract will provide funding for various programs that reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips for members of the public including the Community Ambassador Program (CAP), which increases trips taken by foot, bike, or bus; the senior-focused Golden Rollers program (48 weeks per year); and two citywide Ciclovia events per year.
The CAP requires the contractor to engage historically underserved populations of all ages and abilities to plan and participate in safe, guided bike and multi-modal trips using high-comfort bikeways and walking trails within the neighborhoods. Performing these trips demonstrates how to engage in routine tasks, such as going to the grocery store or park.
This contract will assist the City in reaching the 50/50 modal split goals by 2039 per the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan.
The recommended contractor created the Community Ambassador Program with Transportation and Public Works, in conjunction with Capitol Metro via an interlocal agreement, and has continued training and maintenance on the program. The contractor is familiar with the transportation demand management projects and planning services. The contract will replace a contract with the same contractor that expires January 28, 2025.
If the City is unable to secure a contract, the City will not be able to provide multi-modal programming to increase community adoption of non-drive-alone modes.
