Additional Backup Information:
This project includes the interior reconfiguration, fire suppression system improvements, and heating and air-conditioning upgrades of the Planning and Development building at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Originally built in the 1980s, this project is critical to the modernization of the building, which was last renovated in 2013. The facility no longer meets the space and infrastructure needs of the airport’s growing design and construction teams. Reconfiguring the space into a collaborative, open office environment along with the proposed key life safety improvements including improvements to systems for fire protection and detection; structural and fire resistance; accessibility and evacuation; and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and smoke control, that will enhance building safety, support staff expansion, and ensure compliance with current codes and operational standards.
Due to the potential for unforeseen circumstances, a 10% contingency in funding has been included to allow for the expeditious processing of any change orders to cover any unforeseen construction cost associated with the project. By authorizing the additional contingency funding, Council is authorizing any change orders within the contingency amount.
A delay in issuing this contract may impact the growth of Airport staff, as the building currently has inadequate indoor office space to house additional workers. Construction is anticipated to begin Fall 2025.
The contract allows 240 calendar days for completion of this project.
This project is located within zip code 78719 (District 2).
