The contract provides wireless connectivity for the Mobile Data Computers used by the Austin Police, Austin Fire, and Emergency Medical Services. This connectivity supports field operations and ensures timely emergency response for citizens who call 911. The contract will extend maintenance and support services for the Multiprotocol Packet Label Switching network system and keep the dedicated data connections active. This will provide reliable and secure transmission of City critical and sensitive data used by the public safety agencies, and ensure connectivity between the Combine Transportation, Emergency & Communications Center and the back-up center.
Verizon Business Network Business d/b/a Verizon Business is the sole provider of the wireless gateway services required to connect Verizon Wireless 4G assets to the terrestrial network. Verizon does not allow other service providers to provide wireless gateway services using Verizon’s wireless assets to ensure end-to-end network management control and, as a result, offer customers performance, security, and reliability.
The current contract expires November 30, 2025. Quantities are determined based on the department’s present requirements and anticipated operational demands for future use. The recommended contractor is the current provider for these services.
If this contract is not approved, there may be delays in receiving dispatch information, dropped communications, or interruptions in transmitting data, ultimately compromising officers’ safety.
