Additional Backup Information:
Austin Parks Foundation has donated $175,000 to the Parks and Recreation Department for improvements at the Givens District Park. The funds will be added to the Givens Aquatic Facility Renovation, slated to be completed in Fall 2024. The active project is primarily funded through 2018 Proposition C general obligation bond funding and Parkland Dedication funding. This contribution will add funding to complete the project with all the new amenities and cover the unforeseen conditions encountered during construction.
The Givens Aquatic Facility Renovation upgrades the pool to a Community Pool and provides much-needed improvements. The pool is being retrofitted to include a zero-entry beach area leading into a shallow water play area, an open recreational swim area, a lap lane area, and a diving board with a diving well. Renovations also include upgraded restrooms and a bathhouse including a universal family restroom and lifeguard office space, along with a brand-new multi-purpose building for community use. The new pool deck will include shade structures, picnic tables, lighting, and landscaping. The project also includes the necessary utility upgrades including plumbing, pool pumps and equipment, electrical service upgrades, and drainage improvements. The project website has more details and photo renderings (available at <https://www.austintexas.gov/givenspool>). PARD anticipates substantial completion of the pool construction this fall.
Furthermore, per Resolution No. 20240814-029 the City Manager was directed to increase the allocation from the Urban Forest Replenishment Fund to the Parks and Recreation Department CIP from $300,000 to $1,050,000 for tree planting projects (beyond any mitigation requirements) for park development projects. This additional funding shall be prioritized to address heat island effect, enhance tree canopy, and/or improve ecological restoration.
