Additional Backup Information:

In 1970, the City purchased 3000 Funston Street as part of a MoPac expansion project using street and bridge funds. The Texas Department of Transportation used a portion of the lot for the construction of MoPac and the City has not used the remaining lot since.

In 2018 the City granted Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) a right of first acceptance for surplus property owned by the City for use in developing affordable residential housing pursuant to the S.M.A.R.T Housing Program. Following Council approval, the property was declared surplus and transferred to AHFC for development of a single-family home that would be part of the AHFC Community Land Trust portfolio. In 2020, a neighborhood group filed suit shortly after AHFC broke ground on an affordable housing unit, arguing that the development of housing on the plot of land within their neighborhood was illegal and potentially dangerous. In 2023 a judge ruled against the City writing that neighbors would suffer harm and injury if housing were developed on the property.

Austin Watershed Protection will use the property for water quality and drainage.
