Prior Council Action:

February 29, 2024 - Council approved Ordinance No. 20240229-053 amending the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Austin Public Health Operating Budget Special Revenue Fund (Ordinance No. 20230816-008) to accept and appropriate $31,500 in additional grant funds from the National Environmental Health Association and U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the Retail Flexible Funding Model Grant Program on an 11-0 vote. 

 

June 5, 2025 - Council approved Ordinance No. 20250605-069 amending the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Austin Public Health Department Operating Budget Special Revenue Fund (Ordinance No. 20240814-007) to accept and appropriate $51,500 in additional grant funds from the National Environmental Health Association and U.S. Food and Drug Administration Retail Flexible Funding Model Grant Program on an 11-0 vote.

The Retail Flexible Funding Model Grant from the National Environmental Health Association and U.S. Food and Drug Administration will enable work on Retail Program Standards 1 through 8, work towards meeting Retail Program Standard 9, and provide funding for staff training.

 

Funding Summary: In Fiscal Year 2024-2025 the National Environmental Health Association and U.S. Food & Drug Administration awarded Austin Public Health $51,500 for the Retail Flexible Funding Model Grant Program, for the grant period of April 1, 2025, through March 31, 2028. This award for Fiscal Year 2025-2026 is part of an add on to the previous award. The additional funding being provided by NEHA-FDA is in the amount of $42,000 and is for Fiscal Years 2025-2027. The award is split between the two fiscal years with $4,000 being awarded in Fiscal Year 2025-2026 and $38,000 being awarded in Fiscal Year 2026-2027.

 

The General Fund will not be required to contribute additional funds beyond those currently budgeted to this grant. When the grant funds expire, Austin Public Health's need for continued funding will be evaluated and may be denied.
