August 29, 2024 - Council authorized negotiation and execution of an amendment to the agreement with American Gateways to provide pro se legal assistance to add one 12-month term beginning on September 15, 2024, and ending on September 30, 2025, in an amount not to exceed $70,000, for a revised total agreement amount not to exceed $179,100, approved on a 9-1 vote.

March 23, 2022 - City of Austin Joint Inclusion Committee, Commission on Immigrant Affairs, Hispanic Latino Quality of Life Resource Advisory Commission, and the Asian American Quality of Life Advisory Commission advocated for increased funding for immigration legal services in the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget via Recommendation 20220323-005a.

This action will authorize negotiation and execution of Amendment No. 4 to an agreement with American Gateways for the continuation of their legal pro se assistance programming. This program aids individuals with specific legal needs where there is an upcoming court appearance or deadline and that can be done with pro se legal assistance rather than full legal representation. The agreement was renewed from 2024 to 2025.
