Additional Backup Information:

This contract will provide powered emergency transport equipment including ambulance lift systems, powered ambulance stretchers, stair chairs, and accessories on each Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulance. Powered ambulance stretchers are mobile beds that EMS patients are secured to during transportation to the medical facility. Upon arrival at the hospital, the patient is then moved via the stretcher from the ambulance into the hospital emergency room.

This equipment creates safer patient transport for EMS staff and has improved staff safety and patient transport efficiency. EMS response personnel face significant risks of developing musculoskeletal disorders through work-related activities such as lifting and loading stretchers into the back of an ambulance, an important and common responsibility of EMS personnel, that presents a potentially harmful situation due to high loading forces.

This contract replaces an existing contract which expires November 30, 2025. Although the current contract still has time, there is insufficient authority to purchase needed equipment. Authorization amounts account for costs to outfit new ambulances, replace aging equipment, and accommodate escalations in pricing. The recommended contractor is the current provider for these goods.

Sourcewell is a cooperative purchasing association recognized under Texas procurement statutes. Cooperative associations, themselves or using a lead government, competitively solicit and award contracts that are eligible for use by other qualified state and local governments. Due to their substantial volumes, larger than any one government could achieve independently, cooperative contracts routinely include superior terms, conditions, and pricing. Use of cooperative contracts also results in lower administrative costs and time savings.
