Prior Council Action:

June 8, 2023 - Council approved Resolution No. 20230608-077 on a 10-0 vote with Council Member Pool absent to reappoint Farah Ahmed to the Firefighters’, Police Officers’ and Emergency Medical Services Personnel’s Civil Service Commission.

 

December 12, 2024 - Council approved Resolution No. 20241212-037 on an 11-0 vote appointing Mitchell Kreindler to the Firefighters’, Police Officers’ and Emergency Medical Services Personnel’s Civil Service Commission.

The Firefighters’, Police Officers’ and Emergency Medical Services Personnel’s Civil Service Commission has been established to ensure general compliance with applicable provisions of Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code, the local Civil Service Rules established by the Commission, and any current agreements between the City of Austin and associations representing firefighters, police officers and emergency medical services personnel. The Commission may take action on matters related to promotion, appeals of promotional exams, suspension and termination as well as other matters regarding firefighters, police officers and emergency medical services personnel in accordance with the above-mentioned statutes, rules, and agreements.

 

Chapter 143.006 of the Texas Local Government Code provides that the City Manager will appoint three Commissioners for staggered terms.  Appointments must be confirmed by the City Council.

 

In accordance with applicable provisions of Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code, the City Manager has appointed Sarah Ivory to fill a vacancy on the Commission created when a current member did not seek reappointment after the expiration of their term; and appointed Robert Gross to fill a vacancy created when a current member became ineligible due to the disannexation of their residence on April 9, 2026. The City Council is requested to confirm the appointments of Sarah Ivory for a term ending on December 6, 2028, and Robert Gross for a term ending on October 31, 2027. Both applicants meet the statutory prerequisites for appointment to the positions on the Firefighters’, Police Officers' and Emergency Medical Services Personnel Civil Service Commission.
