June 16, 2022 - Council approved Ordinance No. 20220616-040 amending the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Austin Public Health Department Operating Budget Special Revenue Fund (Ordinance No. 20210811-001) to accept and appropriate $4,406,195 in grant funds from the Texas Division of Emergency Management for COVID-19 Lab Diagnostics, on an 11-0 vote.

This request is needed to accept the additional $720 awarded by the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
On March 6, 2020, a Declaration of Local Disaster was issued by Mayor Adler to allow the City to implement
measures for avoiding the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) across the City and County. On March 13, 2020, Governor Abbott issued a Declaration of State of Disaster that allowed for additional steps to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The COVID-19 response is ongoing.
This reimbursement represents additional approved costs incurred for a seven-month period of June 1, 2020 to January 19, 2021. These costs include the materials for the specimen collection kits and the lab processing for COVID-19 test results.
Council will be presented with additional appropriation requests in the future once FEMA has approved the projects and determined funding estimates accordingly
The General Fund will not be required to contribute additional funds beyond those currently budgeted to this grant. When the grant funds expire, the Austin Public Health Department's need for continued funding will be evaluated and may be denied.
