Austin Economic Development provides workforce development services to help residents gain the skills, credentials, and support needed for stable employment while helping local employers meet their staffing needs. Skillpoint Alliance provides training and certifications in plumbing, electrical work, heating and air conditioning, and advanced manufacturing, along with case management and career coaching. Capital IDEA provides training for healthcare careers, including dental hygiene, radiology, and diagnostic medical sonography, and information technology careers, including computer support, web development, and network administration. Participants can earn associate degrees or industry-recognized certifications. These programs support the City’s goals of expanding access to quality jobs and improving residents’ long-term economic stability.
This action will authorize additional funding to continue workforce development services while the department completes procurement activities for a new contract. Continued funding will maintain access to occupational training, career assistance, and support services that help residents overcome barriers to employment. Without approval, ongoing services could be interrupted before a new contract is in place.
