The Burnet Road Corridor - US 183 to Bright Verde Way project consists of the construction of over one mile of critical safety and mobility improvements along Burnet Road (FM 1325) from US 183 to Bright Verde Way. Improvements include construction of new eight-foot wide shared-use paths on both sides of the roadway, Americans with Disabilities Act compliant bus stops, curb and gutter, pavement rehabilitation, intersection and traffic signal improvements at Research Boulevard, Waterford Center Boulevard, Longhorn Boulevard and Rutland Drive, driveway reconstruction, new pavement markings and signage, and utility adjustments. Drainage improvements will incorporate stormwater detention and water quality structures, with landscaping enhancements adding trees and greenery along the new pedestrian and bikeway facilities as well as the replacement of existing water mains with 1,060 linear feet of 16-inch ductile iron pipe, 180 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron pipe, and 109 linear feet of 6-inch ductile iron pipe.
This project includes two allowances, an allowance of $400,000 to address the handling and disposal of contaminated soil and allowance of $150,000 will be used to address asphalt adjustments associated with production, quality, and placement for the pavement rehabilitation. An allowance is an amount that is specified and included in the construction contract or specifications for certain items of work whose details are not yet determined at the time of bidding.
Due to the potential for unforeseen circumstances a 10% contingency in funding has been included to allow for the expeditious processing of any change orders to cover any unforeseen construction cost associated with the project. By authorizing the additional contingency funding, Council is authorizing any change orders within the contingency amount.
The project calls for lane closures, detours, and use of temporary pavement at various locations throughout the roadway during construction. A minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Capital Delivery Services will communicate information regarding the project with neighboring businesses and residents using mailings, social media outreach, press releases, etc. to inform the public as the work progresses.
A delay in contract approval could impact the addition of multi-modal mobility services for this corridor.
The contract allows 494 calendar days for completion of this project.
This project is located within zip code 78758 (District 7).
