Additional Backup Information:

In addition to adoption of the Food Plan by Council, the Travis County Commissioners Court approved a Resolution of Support for the Food Plan on October 29, 2024. The adopted Austin/Travis County Food Plan acknowledges in goal nine that the success of the overall Food Plan is contingent on the support for effective implementation of the food plan. The strategies included under this goal describe mechanisms to achieve success, with the first strategy addressing the need for an implementation lead organization:

Strategy 9.1: “Launch an inclusive, community-based food collaborative or network that brings together businesses, community-based organizations, educational institutions, government, funders, and other stakeholders to support the implementation of the Austin/Travis County Food Plan, prioritizing community involvement on a regular basis.”

To support goal nine accomplishment and in alignment with the City and Travis County commitments to support the Food Plan, this interlocal agreement seeks to continue the City and County Partnership by most efficiently using the available staff capacity and funding resources respectively to catalyze the launch of the community based collaborative effort. To ensure community ownership of Food Plan strategies, the City will manage a competitive solicitation process to identify one or more community partners capable of launching and administering the collaborative. Advancing this strategy will support the community’s capacity to sustain Food Plan strategy ownership and accomplishment across sectors and will amplify the impact of municipal funds throughout the community food system.
