To accommodate the growing population of Central Texas, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is undergoing an Airport Expansion and Development Program (AEDP). A foundational component of this expansion program is the Utility Infrastructure Campus-Wide (UICW) Project, which provides the critical utility backbone necessary to support both existing operations and future airport expansion. The UICW Project upgrades and expands essential campus-wide utility systems, including electrical power distribution, communications, hydronic systems, storm drainage, water quality treatment, and stormwater detention infrastructure.
Since approval of this contract, passenger demand, airline activity, and infrastructure requirements at AUS have continued to grow at a pace exceeding earlier projections. In response, major AEDP projects including Concourse B and the Arrivals and Departures Hall have expanded in size, scope, and complexity to accommodate increasing passenger volumes, support airline operational needs, and position the airport for long-term growth.
This additional authorization will support three anticipated Guaranteed Maximum Price work packages increasing the size and structural strength of the primary storm drainage trunk lines; expanding the water quality pond system and associated handling facilities to enable integration with the existing remote deicing pond and ground application system; and enhancing the airport’s medium-voltage electrical distribution network through additional redundancy within the power distribution and duct bank systems. These improvements are essential to supporting the expanded airport facilities, improving operational resilience, strengthening utility reliability, and ensuring the infrastructure can safely and efficiently support the airport’s long-term growth and future development.
The UICW Project is an enabling project for the Airport Expansion and Development Program, including the Central Utility Plant (CUP) Relocation, Arrival and Departure (AD) Hall, and Concourse B and Tunnel. Any delay to the project will have impacts on the CUP, AD Hall, and Concourse B and Tunnel project activation schedules. Austin Aviation has applied for federal airport improvement program grants to partially fund this project.
The limits of this project are within the boundaries of the airport campus, and no impacts to the surrounding community are anticipated as a result of this project.
This project is located within zip code 78719 (District 2).
