July 28, 2022 - Council approved Ordinance No. 20220728-072 amending the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Austin Public Health Department Operating Budget Special Revenue Fund (Ordinance No. 20210811-001) to accept and appropriate $80,640 in grant funds from AmeriCorps National for the Public Health AmeriCorps Program, on consent with Council Member Fuentes off the dais.

This grant will fund the approved Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Public Health AmeriCorps program. Austin Public Health proposes to have four AmeriCorps members who will coordinate public health online education for residents and partners in Travis and Bastrop Counties, and provide food shopping delivery services for families in Bastrop County that receive the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (or WIC) and experience challenges obtaining food. The service activities focus on engaging marginalized and historically underserved communities living in Travis and Bastrop Counties.
The General Fund will not be required to contribute additional funds beyond those currently budgeted to this grant. When the grant funds expire, Austin Public Health Department’s need for continued funding will be evaluated and may be denied.
