As part of the 2022 Safe Streets for All Federal Grant & 2020 Bond Vision Zero Major Safety Program, Austin Transportation and Public Works requests authorization to enter a construction contract to construct a roundabout, addressing critical multimodal safety and mobility improvements at Rutland Drive and Parkfield Drive.
This project was identified and developed with safety, operations, and connectivity in mind for all modes of transportation to reduce crashes across all transportation modes, increase safety, and improve mobility and accessibility for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders. The planned improvements include the conversion of an existing traffic signal to a roundabout, the addition of raised medians for access management, enhanced pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and associated signing, striping, and paving.
Due to the potential for unforeseen conditions and change orders that may arise during construction that would otherwise delay the project, a 10% contingency in funding has been included to allow for the expeditious processing of any change orders to cover any unforeseen construction costs associated with the project.
This project will have pre-approved temporary lane closures as the work is being constructed and each phase is completed. The selected contractor will ensure all residents and business will have access to driveways and right-of-entries. If any access cannot be maintained, a right-of-entry will be provided to any affected businesses and business owners 24 hours in advance. For any planned service interruptions such as water, wastewater, fiber, or electrical issues related to pipeline installations, residents will be notified at least 48 hours in advance.
A delay in contract approval would prevent timely delivery of safety and mobility improvements for all roadway users including postponement of planned pedestrian, bicycle, and transit accessibility enhancements.
The contract allows 156 calendar days for completion of this project.
This project is located within zip code 78702 (District 4).
