Established in 1997, the Will Hampton Branch of the Austin Public Library is located on a 12-acre site within the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. This branch is a vital part of a vibrant and growing community and consistently contributes to the high circulation rates within the Austin Public Library System. Originally designed with future expansion in mind, the branch received funding through the 2018 Bond Package.
This project will construct 22 additional parking spaces consisting of 20 standard spaces and two new additional electric vehicle charging stations to the Hampton Branch Library. These new amenities will benefit library users as well as visitors using the nearby hike and bike trails.
Due to the potential for unforeseen site conditions, a 10% contingency in funding has been included to allow for the expeditious processing of any change orders to cover any unforeseen construction costs associated with the project. By authorizing the additional contingency funding, Council is authorizing any change orders within the contingency amount.
All work will take place on City owned property. Some temporary disruption to existing parking spaces at the library is expected during construction.
If this contract is not approved, the shortage of parking will impact access to the library.
The contract allows 130 calendar days for completion of this project.
