Additional Backup Information:

This contract will provide cationic polymer for Austin Water’s drinking water treatment process. Austin Water treats raw lake water to produce drinking water that meets and exceeds state and federal regulatory standards. Cationic polymer is used daily to aid the coagulation process by enhancing charge neutralization of suspended solids. The polymer also plays a critical role during flood events, when raw water becomes highly turbid, allowing the City to maintain plant production and continuously provide high-quality treated water to customers.

This contract will replace the current contract, which expires February 6, 2027. The requested authorization is based on historical, current, and projected spending data. The recommended contractor is the current provider of these goods.

If this contract is not approved, Austin Water’s ability to efficiently treat raw lake water, particularly during high-turbidity conditions, could be adversely affected, increasing operational costs, reducing treatment capacity, and creating risks to regulatory compliance and reliable delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water.
