Funded by the 2016 Mobility Bond and a federal Capital Area Metropolitan Organization (grant, the Slaughter Lane segment, from Loop 1 to the east of Brodie Lane will undergo construction that will widen the existing four-lane roadway to six lanes, add 8-foot-wide shared-use paths on both sides of the road, and include intersection improvements such as improved bike and pedestrian crossings. Additional intersection improvements include signal upgrades at Sendera Mesa Drive, Bowie High School, Wolftrap Drive, and Brodie Lane, a new protected pedestrian crossing at Zuniga Drive, and a new traffic signal at Norman Trail. Drainage improvements will incorporate stormwater detention and water quality structures, with landscaping enhancements adding trees and greenery to medians and around ponds.
This project is located within both the Williamson Creek and Slaughter Creek watersheds as well as within the Barton Springs Zone, thus the project includes scope to add or refurbish water quality structures to improve drainage and treat water runoff.
Due to the potential for unforeseen circumstances a 10% contingency in funding has been included to allow for the expeditious processing of any change orders to cover any unforeseen construction cost associated with the project. By authorizing the additional contingency funding, Council is authorizing any change orders within the contingency amount.
The project calls for lane closures, detours, and use of temporary pavement at varying locations throughout the roadway during construction, maintaining a minimum of one lane in each direction at all times. Capital Delivery Services will communicate information regarding the project with neighboring businesses and residents using mailings, social media outreach, press release, and other similar methods to inform the public as the work progresses.
A delay in issuing this contract will affect the delivery of multi-modal mobility services for this corridor that currently has limited mobility options. Construction is anticipated to begin Summer 2025.
The contract allows 690 calendar days for completion of this project.
This project is located within zip code 78749 (District 8).
