Austin Economic Development oversees the City’s workforce development services to help residents gain the skills and opportunities they need to thrive. These programs are a key part of the City’s economic development strategy, ensuring that Austinites have pathways to quality jobs and long-term economic mobility. Austin Regional Manufacturers Association provides a coordinated, industry-informed, employer-led workforce model that documents employer demand, partner roles, and work-based learning structures. The association also works with Austin-area school districts to introduce students in grades 9-12 to careers in advanced manufacturing. Through its partner relationships, students learn how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are used in manufacturing. Services may also include employer connections, facility tours, presentations, and demonstrations for students and school staff. These activities support the City’s goals of preparing residents for quality jobs and developing a skilled local workforce.
This action will authorize additional funding to maintain workforce development services while the department completes procurement activities for a new contract.
