Additional Backup Information:
These contracts have provided career and occupational training in the City’s target industries of Information Technology and Advanced Manufacturing. Austin Urban Technology Movement has provided job placement, conditional employment and apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and career connections assistance for over 50 program participants. Austin Regional Manufacturers Association has provided workforce pipeline development services for the Advanced Manufacturing sector and currently trains 70 high school students.
The sociodemographic characteristics of the target population to be served by these contractors are City residents who are unemployed, underemployed, have less than a 4-year degree or who have no formal degree or certification, are current high school students in grades 9-12, and those who have limited or no work history. Wraparound services for residents aged 18 or older include but are not limited to childcare scholarships, transportation assistance, stipends, assistance with buying tools or clothes for work, referrals to other agencies, and case management.
These amendments will provide authority and time for continued occupational training. If the City is unable to extend the contract and add authority, these occupational training services will no longer be available to eligible citizens.
