This proposed action will authorize funding of a professional services contract with Mexic-Arte Museum to provide services related to the development of a Cultural Tourism Plan and pursuit of State Cultural District designation for the 5th Street Mexican American Heritage Corridor. Mexic-Arte Museum has served as a lead convener of history, research, stakeholders, and partners, while continuing to program the corridor for future community led visioning, development, and designation.

The Corridor is home to numerous sites of cultural significance and history to the Mexican American community and others who played important roles in contributing the unique character that once populated the district’s boundaries.

The Economic Development Department seeks to contract with the Mexic-Arte Museum to achieve the following contractual deliverables:

2.                     Development of a Comprehensive Cultural Tourism Plan - The development of a comprehensive strategic cultural tourism plan to include elements related to district branding and marketing; heritage and interpretive wayfinding; cultural programming; and built environment improvements.

3.                     Application for Cultural District Designation with the Texas Commission on the Arts - The pursuit and application for cultural district designation with the State of Texas Cultural Districts Program through the Texas Commission on the Arts.
