Prior Council Action:
May 8, 2025 - Council approved an ordinance amending the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Austin Police Department Operating Budget Special Revenue Fund (Ordinance No. 20240814-007) to accept and appropriate $25,000 in grant funds from the Texas Department of Transportation for the APD STEP - Click It or Ticket Mobilization Project on an 11-0 vote.

Additional Backup Information:
The City Manager Office reviewed this grant for alignment as directed by Resolution No. 20200611-096 and recommends approval. This item will approve an ordinance amending the current City budget to accept and appropriate $25,000 in grant funds from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the APD STEP - Click It or Ticket Mobilization Project for a grant period of May 15 to June 3, 2026.
With the assistance of TxDOT grant funding, Austin officers will work on an overtime basis to increase occupant restraint use in passenger vehicles and trucks. In addition to enforcement, Austin Police will provide public information and education in line with the TxDOT Click It or Ticket campaign (Click It or Ticket available at https://www.txdot.gov/safety/traffic-safety-campaigns/click-it-or-ticket.html).
The General Fund will not be required to contribute additional funds beyond those currently budgeted to this grant. When the grant funds expire, the department's need for continued funding will be evaluated and may be denied.
