Additional Backup Information:

The contract will provide hardware and comprehensive network and software maintenance services, including network engineering support for Adtran equipment and infrastructure. Adtran is optical technology that enables the transmission of multiple network services over a single pair of fiber. The City has a limited number of fiber strands within the Greater Austin Area Telecommunications Network infrastructure, which restricts the scope of enterprise network services Communications and Technology Management can deliver. This transport solution optimizes the capacity of the existing fiber by allowing multiple networks to transmit simultaneously over a single pair of fibers, maximizing the stability, security, and efficiency of City fiber resources and enhancing service delivery.

The Department of Information Resources is a cooperative purchasing association recognized under Texas procurement statutes. Cooperative associations, themselves or using a lead government, competitively solicit and award contracts that are eligible for use by other qualified state and local governments. Due to their substantial volumes, larger than any one government could achieve independently, cooperative contracts routinely include superior terms, conditions, and pricing. Use of cooperative contracts also results in lower administrative costs and time savings.

If a contract is not approved, the risk of outages, increased expenses, and operational inefficiencies rise significantly, impacting both immediate performance and long-term goals. Without these services, outages and failures could impact critical City network services.
