The Little Walnut Creek Park Plaza Stream Stabilization is a project along Little Walnut Creek aims to reduce the risk of damage to five multifamily homes from slope erosion. Erosion has also exposed sections of Austin Water’s existing wastewater infrastructure and as part of this project, approximately 305 feet of exposed wastewater lines will be backfilled and protected using flowable backfill.
The project will consist of storm drain, channel, and utility improvements including the installation of limestone block wall, relocation of existing storm drain outfalls, and vegetated soil-rock riprap to stabilize approximately 800 feet of streambank along Little Walnut Creek.
This contract includes one allowance. The allowance of $33,026 will be used for a dry-stacked retaining wall. An allowance is an amount that is specified and included in the construction contract or specifications for a certain item(s) of work whose details are not yet determined at the time of bidding.
Due to the potential for unknown subsurface conditions, a 10% contingency in funding has been included to allow for the expeditious processing of any change orders. A contingency is an additional amount of money added to the construction budget to cover any unforeseen construction costs associated with the project. By authorizing the additional contingency funding, Council is authorizing any change orders within the contingency amount.
The project will include lane closures and detours along Park Plaza Drive during off-peak traffic hours. Residents and businesses will have access to their driveways at all times. If access cannot be maintained, written notice of limited access will be provided to the affected property owner(s) at least 24 hours in advance.
Delay in approval of this construction contract will continue to increase the risk of damage to the impacted residential properties and exposed wastewater infrastructure. Delay could result in additional time and cost to City construction crews maintaining and repairing the erosion along the creek channel.
The contract allows 259 calendar days for the completion of this project. This project is located within zip code 78753 (District 4).
