Additional Backup Information:

The contract will provide development, planning, and delivery of a comprehensive, trauma-informed training curriculum for Austin Police Department (APD) sworn personnel involved in sex crimes investigations. The training scope includes foundational instruction for cadets, advanced training for patrol and field training officers, specialized investigative training for Sex Crimes Unit (SCU) detectives, leadership training for SCU supervisors and command staff, and annual continuing education for both patrol and SCU personnel.

 

This contract addresses items identified in APD’s Collective Sex Crimes Response Model project. These recommendations, developed through the survivor lawsuit settlement and the Police Executive Research Forum, represent some of the most urgent and high-impact needs for improving APD’s response to sex crimes.

 

End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) is a nationally recognized entity able to provide these services based on demonstrated experience and expertise in the investigation and prosecution of adult sexual assault in the United States. This contract builds on prior successful collaborations with EVAWI and leverages their national expertise to ensure the highest standard of training for APD.

 

Authorization amount is based on departmental estimates and the contractor’s proposal.
