The Parks and Recreation Department requests the vacation of 1,074 square feet of right of way (ROW). The vacated area will become part of the current parkland which includes the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC). The MACC would connect via the vacated alleyway to the new pocket park. Within the facility plan for the MACC, this ROW Vacation is in conjunction with the Grand Entrada (grand entrance), thus, allowing access to the center through the parking lot. The appraisal value of the proposed vacated area is $691,119 however, this is a Parks and Recreation Department project, therefore, fee requirement is waived.
All participating departments and private utility franchise stakeholders recommend approval, subject to the conditions in the Master Comment Report. A Public Utility Easement (PUE) is to remain, for access by Austin Water and Watershed Protection, over the 1,074 square feet of proposed vacated ROW. The Director of Transportation and Public Works granted approval via a memo on February 8, 2024, and survey endorsement occurred on February 13, 2024. Lastly, no objections received to date in connection with public notices sent via USPS Certified Mail on February 6, 2024.
