Additional Backup Information:

This contract is for the installation of a new floating dock with a built-in storage structure for use by the Parks and Recreation Department’s (PARD) Camacho Recreation Center, located in east Austin, which provides nature-based outdoor recreation adventure programs for youth, teens, and adults. The new floating dock is needed to sustain an increase in enrollment in the boating, kayak, and canoe programming offered through the recreation center. The existing dock cannot serve the increased number of attendees, and the current dock’s American with Disabilities Act (ADA) component is outdated, inefficient, and difficult to maintain. The storage structure is essential to provide and store equipment used for programming purposes, and the current storage structures hamper the programming, as there are no available resources to assist in transferring equipment from the storage containers, located on a steep slope a distance away from the existing floating dock.

The proposed larger dock with a storage structure on the dock itself will:

                     Reduce the number of resources needed to run the existing programming;

                     Reduce damage to equipment and material;

                     Provide additional safety of recreation center staff;

                     Provide enhanced ADA compliant accessibility;

                     Allow for public use of the dock with no interference from programming;

                     Provide additional lake access points to the public, and

                     Serve PARD’s mission to provide all citizens with access to its recreational programs.

The dock systems are pre-engineered in standard size configurations, which enables PARD to develop an unlimited number of configurations using standard sizing. This modular approach, unique to the proposed contractor, enables docks to be easily upgraded, moved, or reconfigured depending on site-specific requirements or future demands. The product’s lifespan is more than 30 years.

Northeast Products and Services Inc. d/b/a BoardSafe Docks sources the highest quality materials selected for their durability and sustainability. They specialize in aluminum-welded floating docks, marinas, rowing centers, adaptive kayak launches, gangways, stationary and floating fishing piers, pedestrian bridges, and other waterfront access products. BoardSafe Docks is the current and sole provider of these proprietary dock systems.

If a contract is not secured with Northeast Products and Services Inc. d/b/a BoardSafe Docks, the continued transfer of equipment would result in additional damages, and ADA access to the watercraft recreational amenities would be limited, which may lead the Camacho Recreation Center to reduce enrollment and program offerings.
