Funding: $120,000 is available in the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Operating Budget of Austin Public Health. $120,000 is available in the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Operating Budget of Austin Public Health. Funding for the remaining contract term is contingent upon available funding in future budgets.

The contract will provide reimbursement to the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center (WCCAC) for program expenses related to survivors who are victims of violence, abuse, or neglect. The WCCAC provides comprehensive trauma-related interventions, collects case evidence, and provides healing to children who have suffered abuse, violence, and exploitation. WCCAC was created as a 501(c)3 non-profit children’s advocacy center in 1997 so the community could become involved in bolstering the safety net for children during the child abuse investigation and intervention process.
The public-private collaboration developed through the children’s advocacy center model has proven to be the ideal framework for both the criminal investigation and the well-being of children and families. Over time, deeper collaboration among agency partners has strengthened the coordinated response to children and families, allowing government mandates to be met through the effective use of nonprofit resources.
The core service provided by the contractor includes the forensic interview, where specially trained staff interview survivors to document cases of abuse and neglect. The contractor will also provide medical exams, counseling, and intervention during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
If this contract is not approved, the City will risk losing critical services for abuse survivors and risk delay of successful investigation and prosecution of abuse cases.
