Additional Backup Information:
This contract will provide subscriber software, infrastructure equipment, and services to support public safety and public service radio communications for use on the Greater Austin-Travis County Regional Radio System (GATRRS). This includes radios, dispatch consoles, consolettes, software, system upgrades, replacement units, and related radio communications equipment and services. The City of Austin utilizes standardized Motorola radio equipment to ensure consistent functionality, reliable operations, and streamlined maintenance and repair across departments. GATRRS is a shared regional system supported by four founding partners: the City of Austin, Travis County, the Austin Independent School District, and the University of Texas at Austin.
GATRRS was built on a competitive bid and its core infrastructure and equipment is proprietary to Motorola. The enhanced features of the system are either specific to Motorola or fully integrated, compatible, and certified by Motorola for GATRRS. Motorola technicians are factory certified technician that support GATRRS equipment and software and ensure that it is maintained and updated to factory specifications.
The current contract expires December 27, 2025 and a new agreement is needed.
If this contract is not approved, retrofitting another brand for equipment would require certification by Motorola to support the product on their core infrastructure.
