The contract is for the purchase of Tomar brand lights and accessories for the emergency vehicles used by the Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services.
The City’s public safety departments have established a distinctive light pattern configuration for their lightbars, ensuring that all officers are expertly trained to operate the Tomar controls across a range of operational scenarios. Each manufacturer offers a unique array of configurations, buttons, and switches for running the lightbars. If the City were to switch to a different manufacturer, it would require replacing all existing lightbars and retraining all officers on how to operate the new equipment.
This contract will replace the current contract that will expire on May 25, 2025. The requested authorization amounts for the contract were determined using departmental estimates and historical spending. The recommended contractor is the current provider for these goods.
Securing this contract is essential to maintaining the readiness and operational effectiveness of the City’s emergency response vehicles, which directly impacts public safety.
