The contract will provide for temporary fence rental of model CE1.2 fencing primarily for crowd control of pedestrian traffic. At the direction of City Management, Austin Police Department, Chief Davis requested that the Downtown Area Command develop a safe way to open the East Sixth Street Corridor on a trial basis. During this trial, data will be collected to determine the benefits and consequences of opening the street. The traffic plan includes the deployment of specialized fencing to simulate an expanded sidewalk to allow visitors sufficient ingress and egress to the Entertainment District. The CE1.2 model fencing will also be used for public crowd control for short-term Austin Water and Austin Energy emergencies as well as for public events for Austin Convention Center and the Parks and Recreation Department.
Cadence Equipment, LLC is a full-service event production company based in Austin, Texas, that specializes in the planning, promotion, and production of cause-related single- and multi-day events. Cadence is the sole manufacturer and installer of CE1.2 four-foot crowd control fencing with specially designed trucks and procedures for a turn-key set-up and strike services. Cadence was the sole responder to an Invitation for Quotations issued by Austin Police Department for crowd control fencing featuring break away sections for immediate access of emergency personnel and quick delivery/strike services.
This is a new contract. Requested authorization is based on departmental estimates of current and future needs.
If a contract is not secured, Austin Police Department will be unable to provide the public with the quickest and safest emergency response when re-opening the East Sixth Street Entertainment Corridor to vehicle traffic.
