Additional Backup Information:
The contracts will provide broker services for carbon credits. Carbon credits represent a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, typically measured in metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), achieved through projects like reforestation, renewable energy, or methane capture. The City will purchase carbon credits to compensate for emissions unable to be eliminated directly, helping meet sustainability goals or comply with regulatory requirements. By investing in these offsets, the City is taking responsibility for the environmental impact, supporting global emissions reduction efforts, and demonstrating leadership in climate action while working to transition toward lower-emission infrastructure and practices.
The contracts replace a contract which expired April 22, 2025. The requested authorization is based on department estimates and historical spend. Anew Carbon Development, LLC is a current provider of these services.
An evaluation team with expertise in this area evaluated the offers and scored Anew Carbon Development, LLC, Carbonbetter Climate Services LLC, and Natural Capital Partners Incorporated dba Climate Impact partners LLC as the best to provide these services based on scope requirements and deliverables, professional and industry experience, and broker portfolio and transaction documentation.
