Prior Council Action:
August 13, 2025 - Council approved Ordinance No. 20250813-005 adopting the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget.

The Office of the City Manager reviewed this grant for alignment as directed by Resolution No. 20200611-096 and recommends approval.
This action will approve an ordinance to amend the current City budget to accept and appropriate $25,000 in grant funds from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the APD STEP - Operation Slowdown Project for a grant period of July 15 to August 5, 2026. With the assistance of TxDOT grant funding, Austin officers will work on an overtime basis to reduce speeding on roadways that have high rates of accidents. In addition to enforcement, APD will provide public information and education in line with the TxDOT Speed Awareness campaign (Campaign information is available at <https://www.txdot.gov/safety/traffic-safety-campaigns/be-safe-drive-smart/safe-speed.html>.
The General Fund will not be required to contribute additional funds beyond those currently budgeted to this grant. When the grant funds expire, the department's need for continued funding will be evaluated and may be denied.
