Prior Council Action:
On March 21, 2024, Council passed Resolution No. 20240321-033 relating to a feasibility study for on-site mobile food permitting directing the City Manager to explore options related to permit applications and health authority inspections of mobile food establishments, including amending City Code Section 10-3-93.

Additional Backup Information:
Austin Public Health (APH) conducted a multi-lingual community engagement survey about the possibility of offering on-site mobile food permitting inspections as specified in Resolution No. 20240321-033. The consensus was clear as 92 percent of mobile food business owners wanted the option of on-site mobile food permitting inspections. APH reviewed and analyzed legal considerations, challenges, recommendations, and budget impact. The cost of services analysis was completed by Financial Services Department and APH financial teams. Two new fees were identified to support this initiative.
The purpose of the approval of the new fees is to recover the cost of service for APH staff to meet mobile food vendors at their site of operation to conduct their annual permitting inspection, versus the existing process of having the vendor travel to the APH office at Rutherford Lane Campus. Full implementation of the pilot program will begin in June 2025. APH recommends the approval of the following fees:
§ Approve a new fee for on-site mobile food vendor permitting - $740.
§ Approve a new fee for on-site mobile food establishment re-inspections - $230.
