Funding in the amount of $210,000 is available in the Fiscal Year 2024 Austin Public Health Department Operating Budget and funding in the amount of $210,000 is available in the Fiscal Year 2025 Austin Public Health Department Operating Budget. Funding for extension options is contingent upon available funding in future budgets.
Prior Council Action:
February 29, 2024 - Council authorized the negotiation and execution of Amendment No. 7 to the agreement with American Gateways to add one six-month extension option in an amount not to exceed $210,000, for a revised total agreement amount not to exceed $2,046,505, approved on consent on a 10-0 vote with Council Member Harper-Madison off the dais.
March 25, 2021 - Council authorized the negotiation and execution of Amendment No. 3 to the agreement with American Gateways to add funding in an amount not to exceed $210,000 to the current term ending on March 31, 2022, and the one remaining 12-month extension option, and add one 12-month extension option in an amount not to exceed $420,000, for a revised total agreement amount not to exceed $1,815,000 on an 11-0 vote.
February 21, 2019 - Council authorized the negotiation and execution of Amendment No. 1 to the agreement with American Gateways to increase funding in an amount not to exceed $150,000 for each remaining 12-month extension option, for a revised total agreement amount not to exceed $975,000 on an 11-0 vote.

This action will authorize the negotiation and execution of Amendment No. 8 to the agreement with American Gateways to stabilize the immigration status of detained and non-detained immigrants residing in Austin and Travis County.
Amendment No. 7 extended the agreement for an additional six months for the period of April 1, 2024 to September 30, 2024.
Amendment No. 6 added $21,505 to the agreement in one-time funds for the period of April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.
Amendment No. 5 exercised the fifth extension option in the amount of $420,000 for the period of April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2024.
Amendment No. 4 exercised the fourth extension option in the amount of $420,000 for the period of April 1, 2022 through March 31, 2023.
Amendment No. 3 added one additional extension option and $210,000 in funding for the period of April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 and each of the future extension options.
Amendment No. 2 exercised the second extension option in the amount of $210,000 for the period of April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
Amendment No. 1 added $150,000 for the period of April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 and each of the remaining extension options.
On March 22, 2018, the Council approved an agreement with American Gateways to provide immigration legal services and deportation defense, in the amount of $135,000 for an initial term from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019, with four 12-month extension options. Funding for the agreement included $60,000 in annual funding as well as $75,000 in one-time funding for the initial term.
