Additional Backup Information:
The contract is for the purchase of digital x-ray systems and associated components including a tablet, detector, and generator for use by the Austin Police Department (APD) Bomb Squad. The NOVO Tactical III is a compact and lightweight device that produces real time high resolution digital images to safely examine internal contents of suspected explosive devices and suspicious packages, providing a more defined and multi-angle view during responses to critical incidents within the Austin and Capital Area Council of Governments regional service areas. The proposed equipment will replace inoperable systems.
Novo DR Inc. is the sole manufacturer, has exclusive distribution rights, and is authorized to market, sell, service, warranty, and train on NOVO Digital Radiography products.
Previous purchases were made on a one-time basis; however, APD has since determined that, to better support community safety, additional devices will be required over the next five years.
If the City is unable to secure a contract, APD will use obsolete equipment which may impact their ability to determine possible threats to the public.
