Additional Backup Information:

The contract provides for the repair of a raw water pump at the Handcox Water Treatment Plant. The work was initiated under emergency conditions because two of the plant’s five low service pumps were already inoperable, and a third pump began failing. This left only two pumps operational, creating a potential health and safety risk.

The raw water pump station draws water from Lake Travis to supply the Handcox plant for treatment and production of drinking water. Because this pump operates at a depth of approximately 330 feet, its repair was essential to restoring the station’s full capacity. Once repairs are complete, Austin Water will return this critical 15-million-gallon-per-day pump to service. Given the urgent circumstances, an emergency contract was executed.

The requested authorization amount is based on a vendor quote for the pump’s assessment and repair services.
