Prior Council Action:
May 30, 2024 - Council approved Resolution No. 20240530-113 directing the City Manager to explore strategies to reduce the cost burden of flood insurance on residents, engage in public education about flood risk, flood insurance, and other topics, coordinate opportunities for community engagement in advance of the annual Flood Safety Awareness Week (tentatively scheduled April 21-26, 2025), and start a program to provide financial assistance to lower-income homeowners to assist them in the purchase of federal flood insurance.

In a November 6, 2024, Memo to Mayor and Council <https://services.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm?id=440470>, the Watershed Protection Department provided a response to Resolution No. 20240530-113 detailing the recommendation for a Flood Insurance Pilot Program in response to Council’s directive to provide financial assistance to lower-income homeowners vulnerable to flood risk.
