Funding in the amount of $500,000 is available from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Demonstration Program on Trauma-Informed, Victim Centered Training for Law Enforcement on Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking (Abby Honold) Program. A City funding match is not required. A fiscal note is attached.

This action will accept $500,000 in grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women and amend the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Police Department Operating Budget Special Revenue Fund (Ordinance No. 20240814-007) to appropriate $500,000 for the Austin Collective Sex Crimes Response Model Project for the grant period of October 1, 2024 - September 30, 2027.

The Demonstration Program on Trauma-Informed, Victim Centered Training for Law Enforcement on Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking (Abby Honold) Program will support and improve the Austin Police Department's (APD) response to allegations of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking from the time of a victim's initial report throughout the entire investigation. The program will also evaluate the effectiveness of the training.
