Additional Backup Information:
The City is responsible for naming public roads, assigning addresses within city limits, and coordinating 9-1-1 Geographical Information Systems (GIS) updates for unincorporated Travis County. To support accurate, region wide 9-1-1 mapping data, the City enters an annual interlocal agreement with Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) under Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code.
CAPCOG provides essential regional 9-1-1 GIS coordination, ensuring consistent data standards across all jurisdictions and supporting the systems used by Public Safety Answering Points throughout the Capital Region. The annual agreement requires Council approval to renew the City’s authority to perform this regional GIS maintenance and formalize the funding needed to sustain these critical public safety services.
This interlocal agreement which the parties have entered into annually dating back to 2018, authorizes the City, under Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code, to maintain and update the CAPCOG 9-1-1 GIS database for the period of October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027, and to be compensated for such work.
