This interlocal agreement with the Austin Independent School District (AISD) will continue two internship programs for high school students, the Austin Corps Program and the Public Health Internship Program. The Austin Corps Program gives high school students an opportunity to become involved in local government and gain real-life municipal experience by working as interns in City departments. The Public Health Internship Program gives high school students an opportunity to learn about public health careers by working as interns in City health facilities. Both programs introduce high school students to the operation, opportunities, functions, and challenges associated with local government.
The agreement obligates AISD to: offer the Austin Corps Program and Public Health Internship Program to its students; provide transportation to and from each City site; provide one teacher per participating school to attend all sessions and prepare students for each program; provide direct instruction for training not provided in Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills as it relates to civic engineering, government, public administration and public health; inform all participants that they are required to comply with all federal, state, and municipal laws, ordinances and regulations, including HIPAA, related to the safety and health of patients...
