The contract will provide full modernization to escalator #6 located in the Federal Inspections Services Corridor (FIS) at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport where international passengers proceed to U.S. Customs and Border Protections. Original to the airport, the escalator is 25+ years old and has exceeded its serviceable life span. The current escalator operates less than 50% of the time and requires ongoing maintenance and repair to maintain this limited functionality. Given the high volume of passengers moving through the FIS corridor, a full-scale replacement is impractical, as it would necessitate major construction efforts, including structural modifications to the building and the use of a crane.
