April 28, 2026 - Planning Commission considered and approved a conditional use permit on a 12-0 vote with one vacancy on the dais.

On April 28, 2026, the Planning Commission approved a request to allow a land use change to allow the existing Girls’ School of Austin to extend its Private Primary Educational Facilities and Private Secondary Educational Facilities onto adjacent property owned by the school, as well as to increase enrollment from 150 to 200 students on the property, as recommended with conditions by staff.
On March 11, 2026, interested parties Rusty and Mary Talley timely filed an appeal of the Planning Commission’s decision to approve the conditional use permit as required by City Code § 25-1-182. Per City Code § 25-5-149, an interested party may appeal the Planning Commission’s decision directly to city council. The key issues on appeal concern traffic and circulation related to school pick-up and drop-off practices, as well as on-street parking by school staff in the predominantly single-family residential neighborhood. A public hearing on this appeal is scheduled for the first available meeting for which notice of hearing can be timely provided in accordance with City Code § 25-1-188.
