Prior Council Action:
June 9, 2016 – Council approved Resolution No. 20130609-054 directing Austin Fire to work with ESD 4 and related parties on a contract for services that merged ESD 4 firefighters into Austin Fire.
January 26, 2017 – Council authorized negotiation and execution of a service agreement compensating the City for providing fire services within ESD 4’s jurisdiction.
June 8, 2017 – Council approved an interlocal agreement with ESD 4 to compensate Austin Fire for providing fire protection services within ESD 4's jurisdiction.

Additional Backup Information:
Austin Fire and ESD 4 have determined it is mutually beneficial for Austin Fire to continue to provide fire protection services within ESD 4's jurisdiction. Austin Fire provides firefighting and first responder medical services within ESD 4’s jurisdiction, including, but not limited to, dispatching services, emergency response, and hazardous materials response. Austin Fire also provides technical assistance to develop wildfire protection plans, emergency evacuation plans, and fire prevention programs.
Pursuant to the interlocal agreement, ESD 4 pays Austin Fire the annual operating costs for two fire stations, two fire engines, one brush truck, and, in Fiscal Year 2026-2027, 15 firefighters, increasing to 16 firefighters in Fiscal Year 2027-2028.
