Proposed Drainage Charge Rate Change for Fiscal Year 2026-27
The purpose of the hearing is to discuss the proposed change to the drainage charge as part of the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 proposed budget for the Austin Watershed Protection (WPD). The proposed rate change increases the monthly Drainage Charge for the median residential customer from $14.05 to $14.92, which reflects an approximate 6.2% increase to the drainage charge. That is a monthly increase of about $0.88, or an annual increase of $10.56, for a median residential customer with 3,100 square feet of impervious cover and 37% impervious cover. The change for any given property will vary based on the amount and percent of impervious cover on each property. The new rate will be effective October 1 and will be reflected on November 2026 utility bills. For additional information, please visit the drainage charge web page at www.austintexas.gov/drainagecharge, or call 512-974-2540.
