Approve an ordinance amending the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Austin Police Department Operating Budget Special Revenue Fund (Ordinance No. 20240814-007) to accept and appropriate $25,000 in grant funds from the Texas Department of Transportation for the APD STEP - Operation Slowdown Project. Funding: $25,000 is available from the Texas Department of Transportation. A twenty percent required City match will be met by accounting for the base salary and fringe benefits of existing City positions in the Austin Police Department Operating Budget.

This action will approve an ordinance to amend the current City budget to accept and appropriate $25,000 in grant funds from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the APD STEP - Operation Slowdown Project for a grant period of July 15th to August 6th, 2025. With the assistance of the grant funding, Austin officers will work on an overtime basis from July 18th to August 3rd to conduct high-visibility overtime enforcement activities focused on reducing the number of fatal and suspected serious injury crashes involving contributing factors commonly associated with speed. Prior to this enforcement activity (July 15th - 17th), APD will work with local media to increase awareness and provide project detail, including when, where, how, and why traffic laws are being enforced.
